PARADE Standard Changes

In March 2022, safety footwear manufacturers will be able to design their footwear to comply with the new version of EN ISO 20345:2022.

Significant changes

Since its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union in May 2023, EN ISO 20345:2022 has been adopted throughout the EU. The calendar includes transitional periods to give safety footwear manufacturers the opportunity to certify their products to the current standard (EN ISO 20345:2011) or its new version (EN ISO 20345:2022). This transitional period will run until 11 November 2024.

AET certification is valid for 5 years, meaning that the old and new versions of the standard will coexist in the market until November 11, 2029.

Anti-slip requirements:

Anti-slip test with detergent/ceramic is included in the basic requirements of SB.
Glycerin/ceramic testing may also be performed as an additional requirement (SR label).
Slip resistance tests are performed at the heel and forefoot (as opposed to the current heel and flat sole tests).

Penetration protection requirements:

The current required "P" labels for the S1P and S3 standards remain, but are only used for metal inserts (puncture barriers). Non-metallic inserts (fabric or composite) will have the new labels PL (tested with a 4.5 mm "wide barb") and PS (tested with a 3 mm "narrow barb").

Hydrocarbon resistant sole requirements (FO label):

This requirement is no longer required for the S1, S2, S3 labels in the new standard. This requirement will become a useful additional requirement in working environments exposed to hydrocarbons.

New signs S6 and S7

To identify completely waterproof safety shoes with a waterproof membrane or stitching, e.g. * The S6 label corresponds to the current description of S2 WR. * The S7 label corresponds to the current description of S3 WR.

New additional terms

  • The SC requirements include providing standards for the abrasion resistance testing of "stone guide" nails with abrasion resistance testing.
  • LG specifications include a sideways heel counter to increase user safety when using the ladder.
